Modular Dungeon / Sewer section almost finished

Nearly done with the first sewer section, I finished off the wall sections that needed doing and slapped some of the stuff I use for my basing over the gaps (brown paint, PVA glue, sand, grit etc).

After all this was dry I painted up everything, and i'm nearly ready to start the next section's:

I'm just waiting for the varnish to dry now then I've got a little bit if touching up to do and a few bits and pieces to create so it all should be finished very soon and I can crack on with the rest.
If there's anything you need to know about give me a shout in the comments.

Crazy idea / Modular sewers/dungeons test piece

In my never ending quest to never paint all my miniatures I had a crazy idea the other day for a modular dungeon system that is easy to store and should hopefully be easy and cheap to make. The crazy idea was to take a normal box file and create a small section of terrain that would hopefully sit next to other future sections and would be easy to rearrange.

Here's the box file as is at purchase:

P4130027

I started by removing the paper holder at the bottom and sketched in roughly where I wanted the sewer channel to go and any doors to be and the rough layout of any walls.

P4130028

This was supposed to be a step by step but I completely missed out most of the steps after this one. I'll try and explain the processes in any future updates and if anyone is not sure of anything just give me a shout.

Here's the box'o'dungeons as it stands at the moment:

P4150037

The paving is hand drawn onto sections of polystyrene pizza base and then PVA glued over chunks of polystyrene to build up the height.

P4150035

It still needs a some work sorting out the gaps and joins between sections and I still have a little more cobbling to finish off.

P4150030

Once I've finished all the stone work I'll have a look at creating some water effects for the sewer channels and some wooden plank walkways/bridges for access to the different levels. I'm still in two minds whether or not to cut holes in the ends of the box so that they match up with future boxes or to leave them as self contained boxes?
The end of each sewer channel could end in metal bars and each section could be accessed by doors to keep each box self contained that way I don't end up losing the structural integrity of the box? Let me know what you think in the comments.

SALUTE, LOOT, ABOOT THIS HOOSE

Hello everybody sorry for the lack of posts, I've not really had much to show off recently and I was away in the lake district for a week so haven't been near my desk to slap paint or glue on anything. Hopefully this week I should be back on schedule so I thought I'd start with showing off the loot I'd nabbed from Salute:
http://slwarlords.blogspot.co.uk/

This was my first Salute and happened to fall just after my Birthday so meant that I had a large chunk of 'free' cash to blow on new toys. I went in with the proviso that I would attempt to keep the number of mini's that I purchased down to a minimum as I've got far to many as it is and with the Reaper Kickstarter arriving sometime soon I'll soon have more than a lifetimes worth of painting. All that being said I still somehow managed to come away with some mini's, here's the haul in all it's glory, I'll try and list it all below:

From top left working across and down:

1. Bag of mixed leaves for basing from http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/
I used to make my own out of chopped up leaves but I always make too little or forget completely then can't be bothered when I need it so this is the lazy option.
2. Rust effect paint/medium from http://www.modelmates.co.uk/:
This stuff looks amazing from the demonstrations that the guys running the stand were showing off, I'll post pics when I ever get round to using it.
3. Prepainted starwars and D&D figures from http://www.tritex-games.co.uk/:
You can never have to many random monsters.
5. Ainsty Castings Swat Van
6. More Ainsty Castings stuff, Skips, Salt Bins, Fax, Safe Desk etc
7. New pin vice form the Troll Trader
I bought the Scavanger Tank Busters and the two packs of not Predators that they do as I seem to have most of the rest of the Future Wars ranges.
He's slightly larger than the Copplestone predators so should make a perfect leader.
11. Some random Dark Sun D&D monster that cost me £1
12. Some Stowage from http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/
15. Not pictured above, A nodding Donkey from Fenris games:

Last but by no means least:

Three awesome Laser Cut buildings from Sarissa Precision http://www.sarissa-precision.co.uk/
I've been eyeing these up online for a long time but wanted to actually have a look at them in person before making a purchase and as they had a large stand with everything on display I finally bit the bullet and dropped a large part of my cash on three buildings:

I intend to jazz them up with a little extra detail inside and out, I've already removed the middle banister on the bottom building as my 30mm bases didn't quite fit with it still on there. Now all I really need are some more sets of 28mm furniture...

That's all for this week, should have some more progress at the weekend and a few more pics of the buildings.

50th Post!!!

Wow finally hit the 50 post mark, I suppose this one should be something special...

After being inspired by the awesome stuff happening in the 28mm Inquisitor scene I thought I'd knock myself up some interesting back-drop type scenery for my most recent sci-fi mini's, shortly after having this idea the universe serendipitously smiled on me by dropping an old printer in my path. So last Friday armed with screwdriver and hammer I set about demolishing my foe and this is what I ended up with:

PUMPING AND FILTRATION STATION 4Beta (decommissioned)

This was the most fun I've had making scenery and is the biggest single piece of terrain I've ever put together. I think the 'water' could do with some added depth ala clear resin but for now it'll do. I imagine this station to have been long abandoned after a catastrophic failure somewhere in it's past but has since been re-occupied and partially re-built (hence the brick work and roof top work station. For the rust and general look of the station I had a mooch around the galleries on the amazing Opacity urban exploration website:
http://www.opacity.us/
There are hundreds of locations from around the world with gorgeous galleries, check out the gallery for Bethlehem Steel Mill:
http://www.opacity.us/gallery218_cathedrals_of_steel.htm

Here's a ton of moody close ups:

I'm debating whether or not to make this the first of four pieces that all sit together as I've got three more of the same bases and an idea for an overall theme. Unfortunately I don't really have anywhere to keep any more chunky terrain so I may have to leave it for now.

Also this week I've expanded my sci-fi range of mini's with these fella's from Prince August Miniatures in Ireland who have the rights to the Warzone mini's:
http://shop.princeaugust.ie/warzone-mutant-chronicles-wargame/
Before I show of the mini's I should mention Prince Augusts awesome customer service. I placed my order on the 31/10/12, I received a follow up email on the 7/11/12 apologizing for the delay in getting my figures out to me as they couldn't locate one of the moulds and would I like a free mini of my choice? Awesome stuff as I didn't think a week was to long for shipping from Ireland, Prince August I doff my proverbial cap to you.

Anyway here's the mini's:
Dark Legion Nepharite of Demnogonis (with Plague Gun)

Sons of Rasputin - Soldat Flammen Trooper

Dark Legion Pretorian Stalker
Dark Legion Spawn of Demnogonis

Dark Legion Razide (on 40mm base)

Dark Legion Curator of Demnogonis

Dark Legion Gomorrian Emasculator

Dark Legion Golem of Darkness

And here's a shot to illustrate how large these guys are for those of you into that sort of thing.

To be honest yes they are a little on the huge side but for mutants it's not really a big deal and if I base them on less built-up bases they should fit in fine with the earlier Bob Olley Marines. As to the casting on these mini's it was top notch, virtually no flashing and the tiniest of mould lines so overall a great bunch of mini's that would fit in with a huge amount of games and systems (Necromunda, Inq28, etc)

Also this week I managed to nab a copy of the Ian Miller book, Green Dog Trumpet and Other Stories which I didn't even know existed until last week.

I've not had a huge amount of time to sit down and digest it's contents so in the meanwhile here's a couple of shot's of the interior for anyone thinking of getting hold of a copy,

Beautiful and moody as always.

Does anyone else know of or have a list of the early GW artists book releases, at the moment all I can really find are RatSpike and Blood & Iron, are there other books I'm missing?

Here's to the next 50 posts and thanks to you all for checking out my stuff and keep the comments coming as it's awesome to hear what people think and also that way I'm not just talking to myself :)
